Xalitla painted skull

Artisan made in Mexico

Story

The town of Xalitla is famous for its delicate painting on amate paper. Intricately detailed scenes are narrated on paper representing scenes from village life, religious festivities and/or specific important agricultural seasons such as the harvest. The technique consists in painting in freehand using black ink, just as has been done on this ceramic skull. Each artisan has his or her own style.
